Silo wildfire 30 percent contained
THIEFR RIVER FALLS, Minn. -- The Silo wildfire northeast of Thief River Falls is around 30-percent contained.
The fire in the Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge started as a prescribed burn but shot past its parameters last month, when high winds fanned the flames. Around 25 firefighters are on the scene. Fire information officer Dick Birger (Burger) says, as a result, 1,300 acres in the southwest corner of the refuge will be closed to all hunting starting tomorrow through January 1st.
He says hunters are being asked to be extra cautious and to not assume the crews outfitted in blaze orange mean the area is open for hunting.
