MENOMONIE – Jimmy Mars and Darrell Nelson, two of the premier racers in the Upper Midwest, topped the WISSOTA late model and modified features respectively as the thirty fifth annual Punky Manor Challenge of Champions was concluded Saturday night at the Red Cedar Speedway.
MENOMONIE – The 35th annual Punky Manor Challenge of Champions opened at the Red Cedar Speedway on Friday night with preliminary qualifying events in anticipation of the feature events which will be held on Saturday night. One hundred and forty one cars signed in to race for opening round action on Friday with seventeen qualifying heat races completed.
MENOMONIE – As the season winds to a close at the Red Cedar Speedway, much was on the line for the racers Friday. In the WISSOTA sanctioned classes, the feature winners would receive automatic invitations to the AMSOIL Race of Champions event to be held during the WISSOTA 100 at the Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron, South Dakota in September.
MENOMONIE – It this would have been the WISSOTA 100, Dakota State Fair Speedway promoter Orville Chenoweth would have owed Mike Anderson an extra $1,000 for his last lap race pass promotion, but since it was the Red Cedar Speedway instead, Anderson was satisfied to settle for the feature win and in doing so, took over the track point lead. MENOMONIE – After a month off due to rainouts and the July 4th holiday, the Red Cedar Speedway was back in action last Friday night. Apparently the track scriptwriters had been working overtime during the break as Grant Southworth and Adam Soltis won feature races in about the most unusual manner possible.
MENOMONIE– A mid-afternoon gully washer hit the Red Cedar Speedway and with it, any chance of racing Friday night was also washed away. It marked the second straight rainout at the track and the fifth cancelation of the 2014 racing season as at the halfway point of the racing season, Red Cedar has been able to hold only five events. The Kid’s Night activities planned for Friday will be rescheduled to a date that has yet to be determined.
MENOMONIE – It was a glorious Friday night at the Red Cedar Speedway for the racing Anderson Brothers out of Colfax as shortly after Travis won his second Midwest Modified main event of the year at the Dunn County Speedway, Mike won his first Modified feature also as the family swept the open wheel classes at the track.
MENOMONIE – Mike Truscott and Adam Soltis added to the list of repeat winners at the Red Cedar Speedway as the track enjoyed their third night of racing in the 2014 racing season on a smokin’ hot Friday night. Truscott turned in perhaps the most impressive performance of the night as he roared up from the fourth row to win the Midwest Modified main event. Meanwhile, Soltis edged out Sam Fankhauser by the narrowest of margins to claim his second street stock win of the year.
