CeCe Groh at first didn’t want to write her D.A.R.E. essay. After a while, she changed her mind and after two versions submitted her essay on what she learned about being in D.A.R.E. It’s a good thing she didn’t listen to her first instinct as Groh’s essay was named the best in state during the State D.A.R.E. convention last month in Lake Geneva.

Four people were named Most Admired Senior Citizens during the Pierce County Fair Friday morning. Jerry Kosin of Prescott, Beulah Thompson of Spring Valley and Gloria and Gordon Nelson of Ellsworth were this year's inductees. Kosin has been a member of the Pierce County Board of Supervisors since 1998. He is presently the second Vice-Chair and is chairman of the Agricultural and Extension and Land Conservation committees.
Christina Kowalchyk of Ellsworth won the senior division talent show at the Pierce County Fair Saturday morning. Kowalchyk sang "Let it Go" from the Walt Disney World movie "Frozen" on piano. She won $125. The second place winner was Kelly Holm of Hudson who sang "Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart", who won $50. Natalie Simpson of River Falls won the junior division singing "Let it Be" from the Beatles. Emma Dosdall of Ellsworth was second with a solo version of "In Summer" from Frozen.
