Wisconsin National Guardsmen who are members of the 32nd Infantry Brigade, including River Falls and New Richmond-based units, were notified last fall that they may be called up to another overseas deployment during the fall of 2013.
The Public Service Commission (PSC) of Wisconsin gathered two more days of testimony regarding the proposed Highland Wind Farm in St. Croix County at hearings in Madison Aug. 14-15.
Motorists on Highway 95 in Oak Park Heights are now able to use Highway 95 near the junction with Highway 36. This past weekend, crews demolished the eastbound Highway 36 flyover bridge to northbound Highway 95 and completed utility work, as part of St. Croix Crossing construction. Highway 95 was closed since 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9. The road was scheduled to open by 5 a.m., Monday, Aug. 12.

A 66-year-old River Falls man died in a two-car accident at the intersection of County Road G and County Road T near New Richmond Wednesday morning. The Polk County Sheriff's office has released preliminary autopsy findings related to the death of Isaiah Theis, the 2-year-old boy from Centuria, Wis. who died earlier this week. According to the autopsy, completed by the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office in Ramsey, Minn., the boy was a "normally developed, well nourished" toddler. The report indicates that there were "no life threatening traumatic injuries or natural disease processes identified." Also, the report states, there were no fractures identified. When it was first founded, the Momentum Chippewa Valley organization formed to help the region weather the economic impact of losing 3,000 jobs in Eau Claire. Heavy rains and high winds blew through the New Richmond area on Friday morning, June 21. The most significant report of damage came from New Richmond High School, where relatively new bleachers at the varsity baseball field were picked up by the high winds and driven into the chainlink backstop.
