Don passed away peacefully at United Hospital, St. Paul, Minn., after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma and kidney failure. His kind heart warm smile and brown eyes will be dearly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Audrey (Auth); children, Debbie, Dawn (Dan), Gary (Julie), David (Tammy), Jerome (Barb), Judi (Scott); 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; in-laws; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He retired from farming in Dec. 2002 after 44 years of working side-by-side with his wife.
Veronica "Bonnie" Kusilek, age 74, of Baldwin, died peacefully Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at the Baldwin Care Center. Bonnie was born Nov. 10, 1935, in Troy Township, the daughter of Edwin and Mabel (Cernohous) Rohl. She attended Pierce Valley Country School prior to graduating from Prescott High School in the class of '53. On June 15, 1954, Bonnie was united in marriage to Jerome Lubich. To this union, children Susan and Peggy were born. Jerome was tragically killed in a farm accident on April 27, 1956. Bonnie married Gerald Kusilek at St.
Donald W. Murphy, a longtime Ellsworth area dairy farmer, died late Monday, Nov. 30, 2009 at United Hospital in St. Paul. He was 76. Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife, Audrey; children Debbie, Dawn (Dan), Gary (Julie), David (Tammy), Jerome (Barb), Judi (Scott); 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 5th at St. Francis Cathlic Church in Ellsworth. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Friday at the church and again, an hour before services on Saturday. Hill Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Ellsworth is providing arrangements.
Richard Wayne "Dick" Odahlen, age 65, of Spring Valley, died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, after a battle with cancer. Dick was born August 1, 1944, the son of Gerhart and Lorraine (Harshman) Odahlen in Spring Lake Township, Pierce County, Wis. He graduated from Spring Valley School in 1962. Dick loved sports and participated in football and baseball. After school, he worked for Geving and Keehr Furniture and Funeral Service in Spring Valley for 21 years. He trained as a police officer and worked for the Village of Spring Valley.
John Furlong, 82, of Red Wing died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at his home. Funeral service was Friday, Nov. 20, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Miesville, Minn., with Father Jay Kythe officiating. A private family burial at the church cemetery will be at a later date. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, handled arrangements.
Jan was born on Jan. 16, 1939, in Rudolph, Wis., the daughter of Jack and Carrie (Konkol) O'Shasky. She married Richard Rybicki May 11, 1957, in Wisconsin Rapids. Jan worked for Sentry Insurance for several years and at one time was the secretary to the president of the company.
Rosalie E. Strand, age 81, of Bay City, died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Regina Medical Center, Hastings, Minn. Rosalie was born April 1, 1928, in the town of River Falls, the daughter of Vernon and Pearl (Dopkins) Hilden. Rosalie met and later married Ernie Strand. She loved living on the farm in the town of Hartland for 56 years.
Edith E. Hanson, age 70, of Maiden Rock, Wis., went to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 16. Edith was born the daughter of Vernon and Mathilda (Kaempf) Holt on August 30, 1939, in Red Wing, Minn. On Oct. 27, 1956, she married James W. Hanson at the Pepin Methodist Church. Edith was an extraordinarily loving wife, mother who raised six children, and friend. She attended the New River Assembly of God Church in Red Wing, loved the Lord, had a caring and compassionate heart, and was always there for others. Edith loved to spend time with her family and friends.
Betty Louise Harvey, age 84, of Spring Valley, Wis., died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, in River Falls. Betty was born Jan. 11, 1925, the daughter of William and Martha (Bannister) Mendenhall in New Richmond, Wis. She had one brother named John William Thompson who is exactly two years younger. They share the same birthday. Betty grew up in Grandview, Wis., and attended Grandview School until 10th grade, and then they moved to St. Paul, Minn., where she graduated from John Marshall High School in 1942. On Dec. 14, 1945, Betty married Linneous D. Hinshaw in Everett, Wash.
Anna Marie Janisch, age 88, of Ellsworth, died Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 at her home. Anna was born on April 4, 1921, in the town of River Falls (Cherma), the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Krejcie) Kordosky. She married Clair Joseph Janisch on Oct. 3, 1945, at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cherma. Anna was a loving wife and mother who devoted herself to caring for her son Paul for 51 years. Anna was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, and Altar and Rosary Society.
