Evelyn Claire Huppert, "Grandma Evie," age 91, of Prescott, passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. She was born March 24, 1918, in Maiden Rock, Wis., daughter of Walter and Ethel (Morrison) Arnold. Evelyn married Ben Huppert in May of 1938 at St. Mary's (Big River) Catholic Church. He preceded her in death in 1976. Evelyn was a long time employee of Smead Mfg Company in Hastings. She was known for her gardening skills and for cooking fabulous foods for her loved ones.
James Casper, age 85, of Woodville, Wis., died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, in Woodville. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, with Rev. Keith Anderson officiating. Burial in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Woodville. Visitation was from 3-7:30 p.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church and also at church one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley, is handling arrangements.
Jim Shafer, age 62, of Woodbury, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at the Augustana Health Care Center of Hastings. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Spring Valley, with Fr. Varkey and Dr. Michael Mandernach officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, El Paso Township, Wis. Visitation was held from 3-8 p.m. Monday at Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church. Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley, is handling arrangements.
Marjorie J. Raehsler, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and teacher, age 81 of St. Paul, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Oct. 30, 2009. Survived by her loving husband and best friend of 53 years, Norbert; sons, Barry (Liz), Brian (Diane); grandchildren, Cassie, Colin, Morgan, Tyler, Connor, and Alexa; brothers, William, Gerald, and Marlyn. A. Ernest "Ernie" L. Strand, age 90, of Bay City, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at the Prescott Nursing and Rehab. Community, Prescott, Wis. Ernie was born on July 29, 1919, in Northfield, Minn., the son of Alfred and Josephine (Holien) Strand. Ernie served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. from 1941 until his honorable discharge in 1945. He met and later married Rosalie Strand; together, they farmed in the town of Hartland. Ernie later worked for U.W. River Falls in the maintenance dept., retiring in 1986. Ernie raised black labs since 1964.
Irene Margaret Dumermuth, age 95, of Fayette, Iowa, died Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. Irene was born on Jan. 5, 1914, in rural Hawkeye, Iowa, Windsor Township, the daughter of Edward Henry and Mary Elizabeth (Leistikow) Neumann. She was raised on the family farm in rural Hawkeye and was taught at an early age the value of hard work and that nothing should go to waste. She attended the Rolling Green Country School until the 8th grade. Irene moved to West Union her sophomore year of high school and worked for Mrs. Graham to earn her room and board.
Earl Ivan Sebion, age 87, of Spring Valley, Wis., died Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at the Spring Valley Health Care Center. Earl was born on March 13, 1922, in the town of Gilman, the son of Albert and Annie (Anderson) Sebion. He was raised in the town of Gilman, baptized at Martell Lutheran Church and confirmed at Gilman Lutheran Church. As a young man he met Anita Larson and later moved out to California to work for Lockheed Martin Corp painting aircraft. He asked Anita to move to California and after some time she did.
He graduated from Goodhue High School in 1953 and then served in the U.S. Navy from March 22, 1956, to Feb. 19, 1960. On Aug. 20, 1960, he was married to Brenda Thuman. He worked for the Vasa Creamery, Central Research and H.L. Thumann Construction, and he also established Evergreen Estates in Ellsworth. In March of 1978 he and his wife, Brenda, bought Hager Heights Drive-In, which they still own and operate. He also was a funeral assistant for many years for Bodelson Funeral Home and later for Mahn Family Funeral Home. He was a member of St.
Funeral services for Pat will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Spring Valley with Fr. Varkey and Br. Michael Mandernach officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Evangelical Catholic Cemetery in Little Canada, Minn. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and one hour prior to the service on Friday. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening at the church. Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley is handling arrangements.
A 75-year-old rural Ellsworth man died Monday afternoon after he became trapped inside a corn bin while it was being unloaded. The victim was identified as Patrick H. Harrington. Authorities were notified of the accident at the Patrick and Margaret Harrington farm, W3593 610th Ave., town of El Paso, at 1:55 p.m. The farm is located about a mile east of CTH BB and five miles south of Hwy. 29.
