Roland Sern Gilbertson, 82, of Amery, Wis., passed away on Thursday, July 5, at Willow Ridge Nursing Home in Amery. Memorials may be given to Our Savior's Lutheran Church Kitchen Fund, Lake Wapogasset Lutheran Bible Camp, or Amery Regional Medical Center Foundation. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 9, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Amery. There was a visitation from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, July 8, at Williamson-White Funeral Home in Amery, and again 1 hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial is at the Amery Cemetery.
David A. Thoen, age 64, of Ellsworth, and formerly of River Falls, died Saturday, March 3, at the American Heritage Care Center in Hammond. David was born the son of George and Agnes (Schorn) Thoen on Feb. 15, 1948, in River Falls. He graduated from River Falls High School with the class of 1966. On Nov. 27, 1968, he was married to Mary Baker. Mary lost her battle with cancer in 2008. He served in the Army from 1968-1970. David worked nearly 24 years for what is now GEA Process Engineering Inc. in Hudson, retiring in 2011. On Oct.
Betty Jane Hanson, age 88, of River Falls, Wis., died Saturday, Feb. 18, at her home. Betty was born on Sept. 10, 1923, in Princeton, Ind., the daughter of Henry and Helen Esther (Harris) Aasterud. She was the salutatorian of the Ellsworth High School graduating class of 1941. Betty then attended River Falls Teachers College, graduating with a bachelor's degree in education.
Kenneth J. Cernohous, age 73, New Richmond, Wis., died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, after a 16-month battle with cancer, which he faced with courage, grace, and dignity. He was born on July 13, 1938, in River Falls, Wis., to Gordon and Lucille (Weishaar) Cernohous. In his early years, Ken attended the Campus School in River Falls, graduating from River Falls High School in 1956. He attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and graduated in 1960 with a major in agriculture and minors in chemistry and biology.
Thomas P. Huppert, age 64, of River Falls, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at his home. He was born the son of Paul and Lorraine (Cobian) Huppert on May 30, 1947, in Prescott. On Dec. 7, 1968, Tom married Yvonne Goulette at St. Bridget Catholic Church in River Falls. For 28 years, he worked for Andersen Windows. However, Tom was a born farmer so in retirement, during the summer, Tom worked for farmers and loved every minute.
His farm, his family and his community were the cornerstones of his life, say those who are mourning the death of Ervin A. Harsdorf, 88, who died Sunday, Dec. 3, at Hudson Hospital. His daughter, state Sen. Sheila Harsdorf (R-River Falls), said her dad loved life and people and had a great sense of humor. His son, Jim, said their dad still joked with them and nurses in the hospital. "That sense of humor never left him," Sheila said. Ervin had fallen in mid-October but was getting therapy and gaining strength.
Ervin Albert Harsdorf passed away peacefully surrounded by family Dec. 3 at the age of 88 at Hudson Hospital, Hudson, Wis. Ervin was born Feb. 28, 1923, the son of John Herman and Rose (Sommer) Harsdorf in Stillwater, Minn. Ervin was a successful dairy and crop farmer, a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a man of great character, humor and loved his Lord. Due to his father's illness, he left school after ninth grade to operate the family farm located near Lake Elmo, Minn.
Janice Evonne Johnson-Peskar (nee Brathall), age 79, of River Falls, Wis., died Sunday, Nov. 27, at the Grace Health Care Center, River Falls. Janice was born on Oct. 10, 1932, in Wilson, Wis., to Clarence and Velda (Nale) Brathall. She was a graduate of Hudson High School. Janice married Richard Johnson in November of 1951; he died in 1967. In 1972, she married Harold Bruggeman; he died in 1978. In June of 1980, she married Harry Peskar; he died in 2005. Janice was a 44-year employee of J.H. Larson Co.
Charles L. Brathall, 1941-2011, passed away at Dunn. Co. Heart Center on Thursday, Nov. 10. Memorial services from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at Moose Lodge in River Falls.
Clifford Lewis Joseph Holmquist, age 82, of Ellsworth, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at United Hospital, St. Paul, Minn. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, River Falls. Fr. Gerald Harris will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
