DURAND - An illness outbreak which sickened half the football team at Durand High School has infected other students as well. According to various news reports, at least 54 students at DHS had reported sick Monday. The outbreak forced the cancellation of the resumption of the football game between Durand and Baldwin-Woodville Monday evening (the orginial contest Friday was suspended at halftime due to lightning). The decision to cancel the second half of the ballgame (Durand led 10-0 at halftime) was based on the recommendation of the Pepin County Health Department made earlier today. A mother of two boys was killed Saturday night in Milwaukee. Amina Muhammad was one of 11 people shot in a violence weekend for Wisconsin’s largest city. Muhammad was hit by a bullet from a drive-by shooter. Police have reported no arrests in that incident yet. Six people were injured in five shootings during a brief time period Saturday morning. MADISON - Dane County Clerk Scott McDonell lines up with other Wisconsin election officials in deciding not to use a model ballot for the November election which has been challenged as confusing. Although McDonell is a Democrat, most of the opposition has come from Republicans, who say that ballot benefits Democrats.
