MENOMONIE -- The lights went out in UW-Stout’s Jarvis Hall the night of June 21 when more than three inches of rain fell in a short time in Menomonie, flooding city streets and filling the basement of the university’s newest building. According to state records, filing documents weren't received from John O'Boyle, and evidently his name won't appear on the ballot for the Pierce County judgeship in April. The two certified candidates for the position are River Falls lawyer Joe Boles and Ellsworth lawyer Robert Loberg. O'Boyle, currently Pierce County's district attorney, said Wednesday morning that he overnight mailed his registration forms and completed nomination papers to the Government Accountability Office in Madison Monday. The deadline for filing was 5 p.m.
Three candidates have filed for one seat on the Pierce County Board, triggering a February primary election. As of press time Tuesday morning, with just hours to go before the filing deadline, two River Falls area seats had no declared candidates. While all the papers weren't in yet, it appears there will be races for three other seats. The general election will be held Tuesday, April 6. The primary will be in District 8, where both Thomas Sitz, N8739 CTH W, River Falls, and Katie Pata, W9252 800th Ave., River Falls, are challenging incumbent John Kucinski.
