ST. PAUL - Aaron Schaffhausen’s ex-wife says she’s relieved that he’ll spend the rest of his life in prison. Jessica Schaffhausen tells KSTP-TV in Minneapolis-Saint Paul that she feels safer – she can finally forget about her ex – and she’ll focus on living to honor the three daughters that Aaron killed.
WHEAT RIDGE, Col. - Authorities have arrested the former roommate of Minnesota-native Leann "Annie" Meyer on suspicion of murder in Colorado. On Monday, Wheat Ridge Police arrested 54-year-old Melissa Miller who is currently being held without bond.
NEW YORK CITY -- Minnesota teammates Joe Mauer and Glen Perkins will represent the Twins at tonight's All-Star Game at Citi Field in New York. Mauer is the starting catcher and will bat eighth for the American League, which has lost three straight to the National League. Both Mauer and Perkins were born in St. Paul and at times played youth baseball together.
GREEN BAY - The Green Bay Packers have locked up the leader of their secondary, after signing safety Morgan Burnett to a four-year contract worth a reported $24.3 million dollars. The Packers did not immediately announce the deal. NFL.com said Burnett is getting an eight-and-a-quarter million dollar signing bonus, and he can get up to 26-million with incentives.
NEW YORK CITY - Jean Segura calls his fast promotion to the Milwaukee Brewers a “dream come true.” He faced the national media in New York yesterday, less than a year after he went from being a Double-“A” prospect to a National League backup at shortstop for tonight’s All-Star Game. Segura was in the Angels farm system at this time last year, when he was traded to Milwaukee in the deal that sent Zack Greinke out West.
MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Department of Health says a Milwaukee hospital will take all the necessary precautions, involving a patient diagnosed with a drug-resistant super-bug. A spokesperson for the department says CRE is a drug-resistant strain of bacteria that’s commonly found in the gut. CRE can spread to the urinary tracts and bloodstream, where it can be deadly.
MILWAUKEE - The UW-Milwaukee men’s basketball team will go back to playing its home games downtown. The Panthers scrapped the idea of playing in a smaller arena on campus, which they did last season. Starting this fall, they’ll be back at the U.S. Cellular Arena for at least the next five years, with 17-percent less rent than they had two years ago and a smaller facility fee per ticket.
NORTH MANKATO, Minn. -- A 34-year-old North Mankato man has been arrested after leading police on a high speed chase in the nude. Nicollet County dispatchers received several calls that a naked man was standing on a bridge in Seven Mile Creek Park yesterday making lewd gestures. When officers arrived the man had left the park, but witnesses were able to provide a good description of his car.
