The Ellsworth High School track and field teams will participate in their first meet of the 2015 season this afternoon. The Panthers will compete in the Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau Invitational along with Mondovi, Viroqua, West Salem, Sparta and the host G-E-T. The Panther girls’ team finished fifth in last spring’s Middle Border Conference meet and seventh in the regional meet.
With each championship in prep basketball comes a bigger venue to play in, a bigger stage to play on. Prescott High School won the WIAA regional title in the cozy confines of its own gym then ventured to bigger facilities for the sectional tournament, at New Richmond and at UW-Eau Claire's famed Zorn Arena. And now the Cardinals will play on one of the biggest stages of all when it comes to the 100th State Boys Basketball Tournament, the Kohl Center in Madison. Prescott High School’s boys’ basketball team will take on Brown Deer in the Division 3 state semifinals of the 100th WIAA State Tournament. Tip-off of the game is at 9:05 a.m. at the Kohl Center in Madison. Brown Deer is the defending D-3 champions and are ranked No. 2 in the state behind Prescott. The Falcons currently have a 23-4 overall record and beat Poynette 75-39 in the sectional finals. The other two teams in the Division 3 field are East Troy and No. 3 Appleton Xavier.
EAU CLAIRE – History was made Saturday afternoon by the 2014-15 boys’ basketball team at Prescott High School for being the first in school history to play in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) state tournament. No. 1 ranked Prescott dominated West Salem from start to finish in a 59-39 Division 3 – Sectional 1 championship contest at Zorn Arena on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. PHS, 25-1 overall, led the game 20-3 at the end of the first quarter and 25-3 early in the second quarter.
Whoever wins today's WIAA Boys Basketball Division 3 - Sectional 1 championship between No. 1 ranked Prescott, 24-1 overall, and West Salem, 15-10, will have their first such championship and play in their first-ever state tournament in school history. It's probably why the game was moved from Eau Claire North High School to 3,500-seat Zorn Arena on the campus of UW-Eau Claire. Tip-off is at 1 p.m. West Salem is coming off a 69-51 pounding of No. 9 Arcadia in the sectional semifinals held Thursday in Osseo. Don't let the 15-10 overall record fool you.

PRESCOTT - Ticket sales for the WIAA Boys Basketball Division 3 Sectional 1 championship game will take place today in the Prescott High School lobby until 4 p.m. Prescott advanced to the championship game by winning its semifinal match-up Thursday night over Maple Northwestern 55-38. The championship game is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. at Zorn Arena in Eau Claire. Tickets are $5 per person and there is a limit of 10 per purchase.
Prescott continues its drive to it’s first-ever WIAA State Boys Basketball Tournament as takes on Maple Northwestern in a Division 3 – Sectional 1 Tournament semifinal contest this evening at New Richmond High School. PRESCOTT - The WIAA has moved the Division 3 - Sectional 1 boys’ basketball championship game from Eau Claire North High School to Zorn Arena in Eau Claire. The move was made late this morning. If Prescott wins its semifinal contest vs. Maple Northwestern Thursday in New Richmond, the Cardinals will take on either Arcadia or West Salem in the finals. Tip-off of Saturday’s game has been set for 1 p.m. Zorn Area is on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
