PLUM CITY - The Pum City Post #365 American Legion baseball team defeated Prescott 5-4 Friday at Legion Park. Plum City snapped a four-game losing streak and evened its overall record at 5-5. Ben Funk had three hits and two RBIs to lead PC at the plate. Dylan Bjork had two hits and Anthony Ebensperger also had a hit. Ben Glaus drove in a run as well for Post #365. Bjork was the winning pitcher.
HAGER CITY - The Hager City Skeeters rallied from an 8-0 deficit to beat the Plum City Blues 11-10 Saturday at Brown Field. The Skeeters plated five runs in their last at bats to tie the game at 9-9 and scored two more in the 10th to win the contest. HC outscored the Blues 9-2 in the final three innings of the ballgame. Chandler Flynn and Bryan Early both had three hits each for HC and Ryan Christianson drove in three runs. Both teams combined for 34 hits, 17 apiece. Darren Georgakas was the winning pitcher.
The Ellsworth Hubbers amateur baseball team downed the Hager City Skeeters 10-5 in a St. Croix Valley League baseball game Friday evening at Young Field in Ellsworth. The Skeeters led 1-0 through three and a half innings but the Hubbers started plating runs in the fifthj and just kept on going. They scored nine combined from the fifth through the eighth. Sean Corey led the Hubbers with three hits while Lance Murphy had two. Jordan Zimmer had two RBIs for the home team.
The Hager City Skeeters and Spring Valley Hawks were both beaten in St. Croix Valley League contests held Wednesday. The Skeeters lost at home to Prescott 7-1 at Brown Field while Spring Valley was toppled 13-1 by Osceola at Syverson Park in SV. Prescott improves to 11-1 in the league while HC loses its fourth straight SCVL contest to fall to 3-7. Spring Valley drops to 2-9 in the league and saw its four-game winning streak snapped.
ROSEVILLE, Minn. - The Ellsworth American Legion Post #204 baseball team won its final Gopher State League regular season contests with a doubleheader sweep of the Roseville Black Sox Wednesday. Ellsworth won the first game 4-3. Eric McGregor pitched five innings picking up the victory with five K's. Brady Yanish finished the last two innings holding the lead and picking up the save.
PLUM CITY - Plum City's American Legion Post 365 baseball team was defeated by Alma/Pepin Tuesday 3-0 at Legion Park. Jake Ingli led PC with two hits. He also pitched seven innings and struck out five batters and allowed just four hits. Post 365 outhit Alma/Pepin but committed four errors. Aaron Ebensperger and Dylan Bjork also had hits for PC. Plum City drops to 4-5 overall.
The Ellsworth Village Board unanimously approved the hire of Chase McKahan as a new full-time police officer Monday.
Adam Sheley has been hired as a coach for the Ellsworth High School wrestling program. Sheley is a national championship wrestler from UW-La Crosse. He won the 2013 NCAA Division III title at 141 pounds and compiled a 97-15 collegiate record. He is a native of Geneseo, Ill. Last season Sheley was a student-coach for the Eagles' program. EHS Athletic Director Ann Anderson said Sheley has been hired to wrestling program's coaching staff and positions within the staff such head coach and assistant coaches will be determined when the school year begins.
The Ellsworth American Legion Post #265 baseball team defeated N. St. Paul Thursday 7-4 at Summit Park in Ellsworth. Winning pitcher Nick Taranto threw all seven innings, allowing only one earned run. Ellsworth got off to a quick 3-0 lead as several players had RBIs. The team improves to 9-1 in Gopher State League play. Ellsworth hosts a doubleheader vs. Woodbury Sunday afternoon in Ellsworth starting at 4:45 p.m.
HAGER CITY - Nick Johnson 10 strikeouts plus an RBI-double helped the Prescott Pirates beat the Hager City Skeeters 8-1 Wednesday at Brown Field. The Skeeters took a brief 1-0 lead in the second inning off an RBI-sacrifice by Chandler Flynn. But Johnson's RBI-hit and an RBI-single by Billy Brookshaw put Prescott ahead for good. The Pirates led 4-1 much of the way until they scored four runs late in the ballgame. Alex Ross led the Pirates with four hits while Johnson and Brookshaw all had three hits. Prescott outhit HC 14-4. Prescott improved to 10-0 in the St.
