Ellsworth Post #204 American Legion baseball team won both its games over Osceola Wednesday to improve to 8-1 in the Gopher State League Ellsworth topped Osceola 7-1 and 3-2. Mike Koch had four RBIs to lead Post #204 in first game, three of them coming off a deep home-run to left-centerfield. Nick Taranto hit an RBI-double for Ellsworth. Eric McGregor was the winning pitcher.
The Ellsworth and Plum City American Legion baseball team announced their remaining schedules for the 2014 season. The Ellsworth Post #204 play all their remaining games at home at Summit Park. Ellsworth will play Osceola tonight in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m. They host North St. Paul in a contest which begins at 6:10 p.m. on Thursday and play Woodbury in doubleheader Sunday starting at 4:45 p.m. Next Wednesday Ellsworth plays Roseville in a doubleheader before closing the season at St.
RIVER FALLS - Prescott Pirate player Billy Brookshaw was named the Most Valuable Player on Offense at the St. Croix Valley League All-Star Game held Saturday evening at First National Bank Stadium. Brookshaw had four hits in leading the South team to a 15-14 win over the North team. The South team consisted of players from Pierce County SCVL ballclubs. Besides Prescott, players from Ellsworth, Spring Valley, Elmwood, Plum City, Hager City and Bay City took part. Brookshaw is attending college at Augsburg in Minneapolis and plays for the Auggie baseball team.
Ellsworth's American Legion Post #204 baseball team won a doubleheader over White Bear Lake, Minn. Wednesday at Summit Park. Ellsworth won the first game 12-11 and the second 7-6. Spencer Schroeder was the winning pitcher of Game 1. Ellsworth took a 9-0 lead after two innings but defensive lapses allowed White Bear Lake to chip away at the large lead and scored eight runs in the 6th and 7th innings combined.
MENOMONIE - The Menomonie Eagles downed Ellsworth 6-5 in a St. Croix Valley League contest Wednesday. The loss drops the Hubbers to 6-4 in SCVL. Ellsworth's next contest is on July 11 against Plum City at Summit Park. First pitch is at 7:30 p.m.
PLUM CITY - The Plum City American Legion Post 365 baseball team lost to Spring Valley Tuesday by an 8-2 score. PC was held to just two hits both by Aaron Ebensperger. Plum City's record is now 4-2 overall.
RIVER FALLS - The Hager City Skeeters downed River Falls 7-3 Tuesday at First National Bank Park. Winning pitcher James Georgakas struck out 10 batters. The Skeeters outhit RF 14-8. Tyler Reginer had four hits to lead HC while Bryan Early had three hits. Dane Brathol and Elliot Foley both had two RBIs. The win puts Hager City at 3-3 in the St. Croix Valley League.

Ellsworth American Legion Post 204's baseball team won a doubleheader over Roseville, Minn. in Gopher State League play Monday in Roseville. Game 1 was the completion of a suspended contest from last month. Ellsworth won 4-2, handing Roseville it's first loss in league play. Eric McGregor went six innings and finished as the winning pitcher while Brady Yanish and shut the door and collected the save. Ellsworth won Game 2 by a 4-1 score. McGregor led the team with several hits.
PLUM CITY - Fate was not kind to the Elmwood Expos amateur baseball team this past weekend. The Expos suffered two late-inning losses by a single run, on Sunday to Prescott and on Saturday at Plum City 9-8 at Legion Park. Kris Krueger's grand slam homer in the bottom of the eighth turned around a 8-5 Elmwood into a one-run advantage for the Blues they held onto in the top of the ninth. Krueger, Brice Pelzel and Jake Hurlburt all had two hits for PC. Zach Watkins crushed a two-run homer for Plum City. Logan Wolf and Danny Ginal both had two hits for Elmwood.
