ST. CROIX FALLS - The Bay City Bombers defeated St. Croix Falls 9-5 in a St. Croix Valley League baseball game Saturday afternoon. The Bombers outhit the Bandits 10-4 and SCF committed more errors by a 5-2 count. BC plated four runs in the seventh and four more in the ninth, which broke a 5-5 tie. The win improved Bay City's SCVL record to 3-7.
PLUM CITY - The Plum City American Legion Post 365 baseball team downed St. Croix Central Friday by a 14-4 score at Legion Park. PC had 11 hits to Central's five and Central committed five errors. Derek Nelson led Plum City with three hits while Aaron Ebensperger and Austin Coss both had two hits. Coss drove in three RBIs while Nelson and Dylan Bjork each had two. Jacob Ingli was the winning pitcher. He had eight strikeouts. Plum City's record is 4-1 overall.
The Pierce County Dairy Promotion Breakfast took place Saturday at Son-Bow Farms just north of Grange Hall on 330th Avenue just off CTH CC.

Both Elmwood and Plum City rebounded for St. Croix Valley League wins quickly last weekend after taking tough losses. Elmwood routed New Richmond at home Sunday 12-4 just 24 hours after a frustrating 5-4 loss at Bay City. Meanwhile, Plum City was battered by a 16-3 loss to Menomonie Friday and an 11-2 setback at St. Croix Falls late Saturday afternoon. But the Blues were able to come back home winners after winning at Osceola Saturday evening 3-2. The Expos turned around a 2-0 deficit to New Richmond by scoring 10 runs combined from the fourth through sixth innings.
After three seasons in charge of the Ellsworth High School wrestling team and several more as an assistant coach with the varsity, JV and middle school programs, Chad Steldt has departed as head coach of the state champion Panther program. Steldt will be coaching at Fennimore High School starting next season.
The annual Ellsworth Cheese Curd Festival is in full swing this weekend at East End Park in East Ellsworth. The theme is for the 13th annual Cheese Curd Fest is "Welcome to The Big Cheesy", styling the festival to a New Orleans's Mardi Gras. Saturday's events included the kid's parade, antique tractor show, 3-on-3 basketball tournament and 5k run. There was also live entertainments and plenty of food, games and display booths as well. This afternoon will feature the Grand Parade taking place at 1 p.m. followed by a cheese curd eating contest at 2:30 p.m. in East End Park.
ONO - People didn't mind waiting line on beautiful summer morning for food at this year's Pierce County Dairy Breakfast. The breakfast was held at Son-Bow Farms just north of Grange Hall and Ono Methodist Church on 390th Ave. and CTH. CC.
MAIDEN ROCK - It was perfect timing to have the first day of summer be the same as Maiden Rock's annual Summerfest this year. The event began late morning Saturday. The parade was held in the early afternoon followed by fireworks at dusk. Live music, food and children's games took place in the park throughout the day. It was also a beautiful day to have Summerfest for the bikers, campers, visitors, politicans and boaters who came to Maiden Rock Saturday to partake in the festivities alongside Maiden Rock residents.
BAY CITY - A sacrifice fly by Travis Balster into right field scored Skip Bohmbach for the winning run as Bay City edged Elmwood 5-4 in St. Croix Valley League play Saturday afternoon at Hortenbach Park. The Bombers scored three runs in the in the third inning to lead 4-2 but the Expos tied the score in the eighth with a pair of runs thanks to RBI-singles by Jonah Lansing and Brett Keyes. BC loaded the bases in bottom of the eighth but Elmwood was able to escape with a double play to end the inning.
