The Ellsworth HIgh School baseball team has won three straight regional championships. The Panthers will look to make it three sectional titles and trips to the state tournament in Appleton in succession at Tuesday's WIAA Division 2 Altoona Sectional at Bement Field inside Cinder City Park. The sectional was originally scheduled for Arcadia but flooding to the field in Wanek Park moved the tournament to Altoona. The No. 3 ranked Panthers will take on No. 9 Viroqua in one semifinal beginning at 1:30 p.m..
MADISON - The Ellsworth High School boys' golf team is in seventh place after the first day's competition at the WIAA State Golf Meet at University Ridge golf course Monday. The Panthers are a combined plus 65 over par, 49 strokes in back of first place Madison Edgewood who leads the eight-team Division 2 field at plus-13. Edgewood shot a 301 followed by Waukesha Catholic Memorial 305, Sheboygan Falls 316, River Valley 319, Marinette 324, Osceola 326, Ellsworth 350 and Manitowoc Roncalli 363. Par at University Ridge is 72.
Carson Huppert is confident the Ellsworth High School boys' golf team still hasn't played their best golf yet. The first-year head coach of the Panthers has seen such play in practice, but not in a meet. "We've had great practice rounds where we've had our players shoot in the mid-70s," Huppert said.
The Ellsworth Hubbers came back from a 3-0 deficit by plating all of their runs in their last at bats in an exciting 4-3 win over Hudson Friday night at Summit Park. J.P. Paulson hit an RBI-single with the bases loaded to make the score 3-1. Nate Hove single plus an error helped to clear those bases soon after. Ellsworth's Storm Gram scored the winning run when Hudson's catcher dropped the ball at the plate trying to tag him out. Chuck Hewitt was the winning pitcher, going all nine innings. HAGER CITY – Ellsworth’s Dennis Schutz blasted a hit into deep centerfield with the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to win a WIAA Division 2 regional tournament championship game for No. 3 ranked Ellsworth over No. 5 Prescott 5-4 Friday afternoon at Brown Field. Prescott held a 4-0 lead in the fifth when EHS plated four runs.
SPRING VALLEY - The Spring Valley High School baseball team had their season ended by Mondovi in Friday's WIAA Division 3 regional tournament championship at Syverson Park. The Buffaloes won 3-1 to advance to Tuesday sectional tournament in Cumberland where they will face Stanley-Boyd in the semifinals. Mondovi defeated SV 6-3 just as week ago. Spring Valley's season concludes with a 14-3 overall record.
LA CROSSE – Spring Valley’s Zac Webster successfully defended his Division 3 triple jump championship from a year ago by winning the event again Friday at WIAA State Track and Field Meet at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Webster finished first with a jump of 44 feet, eight inches. The jump came on his second attempt during the preliminary round.

SPRING VALLEY - The Spring Valley Hawks amametur baseball team lost a St. Croix Valley League game Wednesday evening 14-6 to River Falls. River Falls led 5-2 before scoring eight runs combined in the fifth and seventh innings to take a 13-2 lead before the Hawks plated four runs in the seventh. The Fighting Fish had 17 hits in the game, including four doubles and two home runs. Brian Giebel hit both homers for RF and Nate Brom smacked two doubles. River Falls improves to 4-0 in the SCVL while Spring Valley is still looking for its first league win, now 0-5.
LA CROSSE - A host of Pierce County high school track and field athletes will be competing at the 119th WIAA State Track and Field Meet this weekend at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Division 2 and 3 competition begins this afternoon run until end of the day on Saturday. Spring Valley's Zac Webster will try to defend his Division 3 triple jump title along with adding gold medals in the long jump and high jump. He'll also be a part of the Cardinals' 1600-meter relay team along with Tyler O'Keefe, Devon Larson and Jacob Reilly.
