Administrative Experience is Crucial
Administrative experience is crucial to the operations of the Sheriffs Office. We should know. Together we possess over forty-three years of collective administrative experience working for the Goodhue County Sheriffs Office. In our opinion, there is only one candidate in the race for Sheriff that has the experience necessary to get the job done correctly. Paul Gielau has worked his entire thirty-three year, law enforcement career for the Goodhue County Sheriffs Office with his most recent experience working in the Sheriffs Office administration. Paul understands the administrative responsibilities regarding personnel issues, budgeting, jail operations, civil process, courts, etc. The same cannot be said for the other candidate in this race. Although he has worked for the Red Wing Police Department his entire career, he has never achieved an administrative position. He has absolutely no administrative experience preparing nor working within a departmental budget, and the Sheriffs Office budget is over $14 million dollars. He has never dealt with a personnel issue from an administrative perspective, and the Sheriffs Office has 110 full-time employees and over 100 volunteers that work there in varying capacities. In addition, the other candidate has never worked for a Sheriffs Office. A Sheriffs Office is inherently different than a police department in several ways with the most notable being the statutory responsibility of operating a jail. Operating a jail is a Sheriffs single biggest responsibility, and a countys biggest liability. That inexperience could be very costly to the tax payers of Goodhue County. In short, Paul Gielau is our choice for Goodhue County Sheriff. Our collective years of administrative experience tells us Paul can not only do the job, but he can do the job right.
