Public invited to participate in Prescott planning meetings

PRESCOTT – The City of Prescott is sponsoring two community conversations during the month of June to solicit input, hear concerns, and look toward the future in updating the City’s Comprehensive Plan. Community members and the business sector are urged to attend either or both meetings 9 a.m.-12 p.m., June 14 or 6:30-9:30 p.m., June 17. Both meetings will take place at the River Heights Banquet Hall at 1020 U.S. Highway 10 in Prescott.

“Thorough planning that includes input from residents and businesses are critical,” said Mayor Dave Hovel. “Participation in these community conversations will help us make the best Comprehensive Plan possible as we look ahead to the future of Prescott.”

The current Comprehensive Plan was written in 2003 and Wisconsin Smart Cities protocol requires formal updates or revisions every ten years. In addition to technical and engineering leadership provided by Cedar Corporation (authors of the first plan), the City has engaged a community development consultant, Danette Olson, to design and facilitate meetings to gather information from the community at large.

“I’m eager to meet with community members and business leaders in Prescott,” Olson said, a well-known dialogue consultant in the St. Croix River Valley and Twin Cities region. “Working closely with the City’s Work Group and Patrick Beilfuss of Cedar Corporation, I am in the process of creating a workshop customized specifically for Prescott. Together, we will address the issues and topics that mean so much to preserving and enhancing this lovely community at the confluence of the St. Croix and Mississippi Rivers.”

Citizens attending the community conversations will participate in a guided workshop setting where dialogue will lead to priorities and recommendations for the comprehensive plan. There will be ample opportunities for ideas and concerns to be shared.

Doors will open 30 minutes prior to each community conversation at the Banquet Hall. Beverages and snacks will be available during the workshop. To assisting meeting planners with handouts and snacks, RSVPs are encouraged at either at (715) 262-5544 or Those with questions or comments can call Olson at (651) 433-0106 or Patrick Beilfuss at (715) 235-9081.
