Eleanor "Ele" Jeanette Knudsen, 90, of Red Wing, died Sunday, February 10, 2019, at Mayo Clinic Health System, Red Wing. She was born April 13, 1928, in Zumbrota, to Clarence and Elsie (Hoisington) Baez. She attended school in Red Wing and as a young woman, worked at Red Wing Pottery. On August 31, 1946, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Knudsen. They were blessed with six children, and Ele cared for her family and home while the children were young. She worked part-time at Braschler's Bakery and also worked with her husband at the family business, Knudsen Trucking. Together she and Kenneth enjoyed many years of fishing and traveling. He died on April 17, 2004. Ele was a member of the Eastern Star, Red Hats and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she had served on the altar guild. Family was most important to Ele, and she always enjoyed spending time with them.
She is survived by her children, Bonnie Gryniewski, Fay (Denny) Kells, Terry Skorude, Dennis (Jane Brekken) Knudsen, Kevin (Vickie) Knudsen and Perry (Deann Windhorst) Knudsen, all of Red Wing; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a brother Lyle (Carla) Baez of Madison, WI and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 2 sisters, Murlene Krier and Vivian Nielson; son-in-law, Scott Skorude and a great-grandson, Ethan Hedeen.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2019, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Dana Jackson officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, February 15, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
