Lorraine M. Engeset

Lorraine Engeset, age 96, died peacefully surrounded by family at her home on Thursday, March 7th, 2019. She was born February 14th, 1923 in Ellsworth to Charles and Lena (Baar) McGillis. She graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1941 and was married to Duane Bud' Engeset on November 25th, 1950. They farmed until 1962 and then owned and operated the Tip Top Stop, where she was famous for her hot beef sandwiches. Lorraine loved spending time with and caring for her family. In later years, she especially enjoyed trips to the cabin- playing cards until 3 a.m., shopping at Herberger's, and watching Hallmark movies. Her social calendar was kept full with events including Red Hat outings, weekly hair appointments, dinners out, St. Patrick's Day parades, and decorating her home for every holiday. Over 96 years, she built a wealth of knowledge on Ellsworth, and could tell you the history of every building in town. She is survived by her children: Patti (Jerry) Ingli and Greg (Nel) Engeset; grandchildren: Angie (Luke) Nelson, Ali (Mitch) Helmueller, Lindsay (Laura) Lien, and Ara Engeset; great grandchildren: Reese, Rowan, and Regan Nelson and Clayton and Charley Helmueller; brother Darrel (Mary Jane) McGillis and sister-in-law Delores McGillis; nieces and nephews, extended family, and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Stuart McGillis. Visitation will be at St. Francis Catholic Church on Friday, March 15th, 2019, from 3-5 p.m., followed by the funeral mass at 5 p.m. with Father Eric Awortwe-Dadson officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. Francis Cemetery.
