Five Pierce County athletes selected as All-Stars
Five Pierce County softball and baseball athletes have been invited to play in this year's Senior All-Star Games.
Plum City's Ellie Funk and Prescott's Katelyn Miller and Kaili Wescott will represent their teams in the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association's all-star festivities, which will be held in Wisconsin Dells from Monday-Tuesday, June 11-12.
Miller and Wescott have been named to the Division 2/3 White team and will be coached by Mathew Ellenbecker of Merrill. They'll face the Division 2/3 Red team at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12 on Field 10 of Woodside Sports Complex. They'll return to Field 10 at 1:30 p.m. for their second and final game of the day.
Funk will join the Division 4/5 Gray team, which will be coached by Markesan's Brian Cahoon. She'll also play at 9 a.m. on Tuesday on Field 11, then will conclude her all-star run at 1:30 p.m. on Field 11.
Prior to the Tuesday games, all senior all-stars will be recognized at a formal banquet Monday night. All athletes must raise money in order to play in the all-star games. Their proceeds will be donated to the Special Olympics, and those who wish to donate their contributions can visit the WFSCA website.
Prescott's Peter Brookshaw and Ellsworth's Ryan McGregor were selected as two of the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association's 72 senior all-stars on Monday, June 4. The two Middle Border Conference players will participate in the 35th Annual All-Star Classic on Monday-Tuesday, June 29-30, at EJ Schneider Field in Oshkosh.
Brookshaw and McGregor will both play for Athen's Bill Coker, Grantsburg's Pete Johnson and Ashland's Chris Kempf on the West team. They'll face the East team at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 29, then have one last hurrah on Saturday, June 30, when they face the North team at 12:30 p.m.
Brookshaw and McGregor will be asked to raise $275 apiece in order to participate in the Classic. Fans can visit the WBCA's website for more information on where to submit donations.
