It was a steamy, windy Sunday, but the Prescott Pirates secured another St. Croix Valley Baseball League win to remain flawless in league play by serving the Hudson River Rats an 11-3 loss at Grandview Park on July 8.

The top Pirates team was led by Conner Cress on the mound and the Brookshaw brothers who accounted for six of Prescott's 10 hits against the Rats.

The guests got off to a 5-0 lead in the first three innings after Mike Brookshaw hit a line drive to bring Peter Brookshaw — who doubled in the first at bat — home in the first, followed by RBI from Mike, Billy Brookshaw and Brandon Voelker in the third.

While Cress took care of things at the mound, the Pirates continued to make things difficult for the Rats' pitchers. Peter forced a fielder's choice while facing two outs in the top of the sixth, which allowed Evan Bayer to score Prescott's sixth run of the game before Mike brought Logan Johnson home on a ground ball hit to the Rats' third baseman.

The Rats managed two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but were plagued by Cress' pitching that remained relentless despite the taxing heat. Cress pitched a complete game and held Hudson to two earned runs on seven hits.

Prescott's final four runs of the game were produced by Chase Williams walking in runs in the eighth and ninth innings, Mike recording his final RBI of the game on a fielder's choice that brought Luke Murphy home, and Peter touching home due to an error at third base caused by a Michael Lytle grounder.

Billy and Mike both recorded three RBI, while Billy led the Pirates by hitting 3-for-5 at the plate.

Cress solidified Prescott's tenth win of the season by striking out Hudson's Paul Johnson on a fastball that grazed the strike zone, claiming the win for the Pirates and the Eagan native's 11th strikeout of the game.

The Pirates will host the Plum City Blues on Saturday, July 14, at 1 p.m.
