Prescott tops Hastings 77-67

The Prescott boys basketball team traveled to Minnesota over winter break where they competed in the Hastings Holiday Tournament held Dec. 28-29.

The Cardinals were faced with the Hastings Raiders in the first round of play, and served the home team a 77-67 defeat on Thursday, Dec. 28.

Prescott forced multiple Raiders turnovers to begin the game and took a 10-7 lead with 12 minutes left in the first half of play.

The Cardinals turned their lead to a seven-point advantage at half with many looks at the rim, and were led in scoring by Peter Brookshaw and Parker Nielsen before the break.

Hastings' Devon Haraldson had a tremendous second half, and led his team to a 47-46 lead with 10:47 left on the clock, but Brookshaw soon took over with the help of Nielsen and Bryan Tayson to claim the lead at 64-62.

Prescott extended its lead to 77-67 with free throws in the final minutes of the game, and made its way to the championship game against Farmington on Friday, Dec. 29. The championship game was held after the Jan. 3 issue of the Herald's deadline had passed.

Scoring for the Cardinals: Brookshaw 32, Nielsen 19, Tayson 17, Roosen 6, Rieken 2, Bartsch 1.
