Cardinals find a way to win against NR

The New Richmond Tigers made things interesting at Prescott High School on Friday, Jan. 12.

The Prescott girls basketball team was never able to pull away from the Tigers to secure a comfortable lead, but found a way to claim their sixth conference win of the season when it mattered against the 1-6 Middle Border Conference team.

The Cardinals led 27-21 at the half, but with four minutes left in the game, NR took their first lead with a Leah DeYoung three-pointer that gave the Tigers a 45-42 advantage.

From there, Prescott's three leading scorers, Haylee Yaeger, Bella Lenz and Allie Murphy scored four consecutive baskets to keep their team from losing the conference game.

Prescott went on to win 58-49, and were led in scoring by Yaeger who finished with 21 points.

Lorin Bauer recorded 12 points to lead the Tigers in scoring.

The now 7-4 Cardinals will continue their season on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at River Falls. The 2-11 Tigers host Somerset the same night.
