Things are looking bright for the Spring Valley boys basketball team as they close in on tournament time.

With their second win against the Elk Mound Mounders (9-12, 7-6) in a week, the Cardinals (12-9, 8-5) are now on a three-game win streak heading into the playoffs and have the second best Dunn-St. Croix conference record.

It would have been easy for SV to give their less-than-best effort on the Mounders' home court considering playoff seedings were set on Sunday, Feb. 18, but that wasn't the case on Tuesday, Feb. 20.

The Cardinals got off to a 32-19 halftime lead over the Mounders who were tied with the Cardinals in the conference standings coming into Tuesday night. Despite having a double-digit lead at the break, SV refused to let up in the second half and outscored the Mounders 31-22 for a final score of 63-41 in SV's favor.

Three Cardinal players put up double-digit scoring figures in their second-to-last regular season game. Tyson Kado led all scorers with 18 points, Aaron Borgerding finished with 17, and Zack Williams added 14 to SV's 63 total.

Sophomore Trevor Stangl is averaging seven points per game in the final month of the regular season, and put up nine points against the Mounders on Tuesday night.

Ben Lambele led his Mounders team in scoring with 15 points.

The Cardinals will finish off their regular season on Thursday, Feb. 22 at Boyceville (5-15, 2-11) before hosting Chetek-Weyerhaeuser (6-13) in the first round of Division 4 Regionals on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m.

Scoring for the Cardinals: Kado 18, Borgerding 17, Williams 14, Stangl 9, Mike Bauer 3, Lance McMurrin 2.

Scoring for the Mounders: Lambele 15; Brandon Redwine 7; Ryan Mohr 6; Dylan Black 4; Blake Rosenthal 3; Dylan Curry, Brett Lew, Jake Mentzel 2.
