Track and field: 4 Cardinals place at elite meet

Good teams welcome tough competition, and that's what the Prescott Cardinals did at the UW-Stout Elite track and field meet on Friday, April 5.

The Cardinals left the Johnson Fieldhouse with a 15th-place finish on the boys' side and a 21st-place finish for the girls, along with four place-winners.

Wyatt Holum led the Cardinals with a first-place finish in the high jump, giving his team all of its 10 points on the day. Holum cleared six feet, four inches in the high jump, defeating the 6-00 mark he cleared at the Stout Invite on Saturday, March 23.

The Cardinal girls were led by sophomore Tori Benck who placed third in the 400 with a time of one minute, 3.07 seconds.

Senior Jada Iberg added to the girls' total team points by tying for seventh in the pole vault with a mark of 7-00, and sophomore Abby Syverson placed eighth in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.77 seconds to add one point to the girls' 7.33 total.

River Falls was the top team on both the girls' and boys' sides.

The Cardinals are scheduled to continue their season on Thursday, April 18, when they host Baldwin-Woodville, Ellsworth, New Richmond, Spring Valley and St. Croix Central at Prescott Intermediate School for a six-team meet. Events are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.

55-meter dash: 8. Syverson (So., 7.77)

400: 3. Benck (So., 1:03.07)

Pole vault: t7. Iberg (Sr., 7-00)

BOYS' TOP-EIGHT FINISHERS:

High jump: 1. Holum (Jr., 6-04)
