Quality over quantity has been the motto for the Ellsworth Panthers track and field teams so far this season.

Yes, the Panthers' numbers are down, but the athletes who have decided to dedicate their springs to track and field have proven that size doesn't always matter.

The Panther boys claimed a second-place team finish at Baldwin-Woodville meet on Tuesday, April 9, along with three individual first-place finishes, two second-place finishes and a handful of lower place winners.

Ellsworth senior Jared Lansing earned his first first-place finish of the season by completing the 400-meter dash in 54.53 seconds. Fellow senior Jordan Schlicting added 10 points to Ellsworth's 86 total by clearing a height of 11 feet in the pole vault, and the Panther boys' 4x100-meter relay added a first-place finish before the night was over.

Ellsworth's boys' 4x800-meter relay team left Baldwin-Woodville High School with a second-place finish, as did freshman Max Grand who took second in the 200-meter dash after crossing the finish line at 24.10 seconds.

The Ellsworth girls came in seventh place with 59 total points and were led by Stella Anderson and Aly Reuvers who earned first- and second-place finishes for their Panther team.

Anderson cleared 4 feet, 11 inches to win Tuesday's high jump event, and Reuvers took second in the 200 with a time of 27.63 seconds.

The Spring Valley Cardinals joined the Panthers at Tuesday's meet where the boys finished in eighth place with 49.50 team points and the girls tied for ninth with Boyceville after acquiring 25 team points.

Senior Dylan Bosshart contributed 24 of the Cardinal boys' 49.50 team points after winning the high and long jump and taking fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles. Bosshart won the high jump after clearing 5-10 and recorded a first-place mark of 20-02 in the long jump. His 110-meter hurdles time of 16.22 seconds earned him a fourth-place finish.

Sophomore Nathan Fesenmaier was also named a champ on Tuesday night after he won the discus throw with a mark of 119-05.

The Cardinal girls' highest individual finishes came from Katherine Dieckman and Shye Klatt who both brought home third-place finishes after Tuesday's meet. Dieckman completed the 1,600-meter run in six minutes, 6.45 seconds to earn the bronze, and Klatt tied for third in the high jump with Ellsworth's Emma Selzler after clearing a height of 4-04.

Both Elmwood/Plum City Wolves teams finished in last place at the 11-team meet but went home with a few notable performances before the night was over.

EPC junior Katie Feuker was a standout once again after she claimed two second-place finishes on Tuesday and was responsible for all 18 of the Wolves' team points. Feuker took second in the 400 after crossing the finish line at 1:06.17, and she added another second-place finish to her season after running a 2:39.23 800. The junior took seventh in the triple jump to account for EPC's final two points of the day.

Ethan Rupakus and John Henn combined for the EPC boys' 7.5 team points. Rupakus tied for fifth place in the high jump after clearing 5-00, and Henn tossed the discus 104 feet, 09 inches to claim a fifth-place finish in his respected event.

Ellsworth and EPC were scheduled to compete at Menomonie on Thursday, April 11, but the meet has been canceled due to Wednesday's snow.
