Track and field: Cardinals earn 11 first-place finishes in Mondovi
The Spring Valley Cardinals left the Monday, April 29, Mondovi Invite with 11 total first-place finishes from their male and female athletes.
Although the girls were unable to best any of their three opponents in the team rankings at the quad meet, they did earn four first-place finishes before the night was over.
Senior Shye Klatt claimed two of the girls' four first-place finishes by winning the 100-meter dash and the high jump. Klatt beat her former personal-best 100 time of 13.72 by 0.41 seconds and cleared four feet, eight inches to win the high jump on Monday.
Katherine Dieckman shaved 2.63 seconds off her personal-best 800-meter run time in her first-place performance. The Spring Valley junior added six points to the Cardinals' 39 total by completing the two-lap race in two minutes, 37.66 seconds.
The Cardinal girls' fourth first-place finish came from the 4x200-meter relay team that ran unopposed at Mondovi's four-team meet.
Dylan Bosshart, Nate Fesenmaier and Brenden Williams continued to excel on Monday as they played a hand in all seven of the boys' team's first-place finishes.
Williams dominated in the sprints where he won both the 100 and 200. The junior cut 0.54 seconds off of his 100 personal record in his 11.73 season-best performance and shaved 0.44 seconds off of his personal-best 200 time by completing the race in 24.66 seconds.
Bosshart claimed another win in the 110-meter hurdles by cutting 0.47 seconds off his season-best time and won the high jump by clearing 5-10.
The Cardinals earned their final individual win from sophomore Nate Fesenmaier who continues to rack up first-place finishes in the discus this season. Fesenmaier showed continued growth on Monday by defeating his former personal-best throw of 123-04 by 13-07.
The Spring Valley sophomore thrower was also a member of the two Cardinal relay teams that took first place at the four-team meet. Fesenmaier, Bosshart, Dakota Kerr and Williams claimed a first-place finish in the 4x200 relay after shaving 0.90 seconds off their personal-best time and completing the race in 1:38.10. Fesenmaier anchored the Cardinals' winning 4x400 team that also featured Travis Marty, Tyler Zurn and Luke Miller.
The Cardinal boys finished with 76.50 team points and came in second place behind the Mondovi Buffaloes who earned 80 team points at their home meet. Mondovi was also victorious on the girls' side.
