MADISON -- Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker says he opposes the boycott of Harley-Davidson the president is suggesting.
SOUTH BELOIT, Ill. -- All three people who were on a small plane when it crashed Sunday are expected to be okay. The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA are investigating. The plane had just taken off from the Beloit airport at about 8:30 a.m. when it crashed in an Illinois cornfield. A man and a juvenile passenger were treated and released at an area hospital. A woman on the plane was airlifted to a hospital and is being treated for more serious injuries. Authorities haven't released the names of the people involved.
The finalists for the Pierce County Fair Talent Show competed Saturday, Aug. 11, and two winners were announced by its end. Makenna Williamson, of Prescott, won the junior division with her dance solo "I Won't Let Go." She danced in honor of her brother, Trenten Williamson, who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Second place in the junior division went to Helen and Sophia Jiang, of River Falls, who played a piano / violin duet "New Orleans 1928."
MILWAUKEE -- The suspect accused of shooting Milwaukee Police Officer Michael Michalski to death has entered a not guilty plea to four felony charges and waived his right to a preliminary hearing. Thirty-year-old Jonathan Copeland Junior made a Milwaukee County Court appearance Thursday. Relatives of the fallen officer and the man accused of killing him filled the courtroom seats. TOWN OF GILMAN - A two-vehicle crash drew emergency responders just outside of Spring Valley Tuesday. According to a Pierce County Sheriff’s Office news release, deputies responded to county roads B and I in the town of Gilman at 4:37 p.m.
TOWN OF GILMAN -- A rural mail carrier was injured in a one-vehicle crash late Monday morning in the town of Gilman. Pierce County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the crash at 11:15 a.m. July 16 at 450th Street and 825th Avenue. Mail carrier Ernest Thompson, 54, Menomonie, was heading southbound on 450th Street when he crossed the center of the road, entered the east ditch and struck a culvert.
Spring Valley Community Safety Day drew visitors to Syverson Field Friday, June 15, where tykes could climb in a fire truck, escape a smoke house, try on bike helmets, visits with law enforcement officers and emergency personnel, climb in a tank and tour an ambulance.
A 68-year-old Pierce County woman died Wednesday after an ATV rolled on top of her in a cow pasture. According to a Pierce County Sheriff’s Office news release, a family member found the woman and called police at 6 p.m. June 6 from a rural Pierce County residence.
As the Ellsworth High School Class of 2018 gathered as one full group for one last time at their Friday, May 25 commencement ceremony, the messages from speakers were uplifting. Superintendent Barry Cain made special note of the 10, 780 hours of community service performed by the class. “That represents making others’ lives better,” Cain said.
Multiple agencies responded to a barn and silo fire in the town of Baldwin late Friday afternoon, in which United Fire Baldwin Station Chief Gary Newton said 30 cows weren't able to be saved. "They got out as many as they could," said St. Croix County Sheriff Scott Knudson on the scene at 2467 90th Ave., Baldwin. "We estimate 25 were left in there we couldn't get to." A neighbor confirmed she called 911 about 4 p.m. when she saw smoke.
